Matt Colvard serves as District Attorney for Tennessee’s 31st Judicial District, representing the citizens of Warren and Van Buren Counties. With twenty-five years as a practicing attorney, including seventeen years as a prosecutor, he has dedicated his professional life to protecting communities, supporting victims, and applying the law with fairness and consistency.

In addition to his legal career, Matt served twenty-eight years in the United States Army and Army Reserve before retiring from military service. His time in uniform included service as an Infantry Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Military Intelligence Officer, and Judge Advocate. He deployed to Iraq, El Salvador, and South Korea and was stationed in Germany. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Judge Advocate Officer Advanced Course, the Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course, and the Infantry Basic Officer Course. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Iraq.

The discipline, preparation, and sense of responsibility shaped during nearly three decades of military service continue to guide his leadership today.

Matt is a fourth-generation Warren Countian with deep family ties throughout the district. This is not simply where he works. It is home. Generations of his family have lived, worked, and invested in these communities, and that connection continues to shape his commitment to the people he serves.

He and his wife, Pennie, are celebrating thirty-two years of marriage and are the parents of twin daughters, Claire and Ella. Family remains central to his life and to the perspective he brings to public service.

Guided by his faith, Matt serves as an elder at Central Church of Christ and has supported local outreach efforts, including work with the Homeless of McMinnville Effort. Service has long been a steady and consistent part of his life.

Matt is known for his measured temperament and thoughtful approach. Shaped by military leadership and decades in the courtroom, he prepares thoroughly, evaluates carefully, and speaks with purpose. Those who work with him understand that his steady manner reflects discipline, focus, and respect for the responsibility entrusted to his office.

As District Attorney, Matt works closely with law enforcement, prioritizes public safety, and remains committed to ensuring justice is applied firmly, fairly, and without favor. He understands the weight of the role and approaches it with seriousness and respect for the people of this district.

Matt remains committed to serving the 31st Judicial District with integrity, preparation, and sound judgment.
